This is a photograph showing Luzerne County Sheriff James Martin's deputies. These 26 men were the deputies who shot striking miners at the Lattimer Massacre in 1897, killing nineteen and wounding many others.

Thank you for sharing this. As an Ancestor of one of the miners who was massacred at Lattimer, this photo arouses a lot of emotion. Although we will never know who shot and killedmy ancestor, Miner Michael Cheslock, gunned him and all the other poor miners like dogs in the streets, having this photo keeps history alive! It is allows me in some odd way to look at "THE MURDERERS" and tell them that the truth is now known Tell them that we know you killed innocent men that day, you all have blood on your hands! Each and everyone in that photo is repsonsible, any decent man never would have been in the group to begin with.
Please make sure to pay tribute to the Miners, of Lattimer Massacre come this Sept 10th!

PS - His wife was also an ancestor of mine! That adds more sorrow to my heart. I am only 2nd generation American. I am not too far removed from the mindset of these immigrants who came here from Eastern Europe.

Hi, its me again. In the description for this photo, out of respect for those miners, their familes and surviivng ancestors, can you kindly change some wording. It should make mention that these deputies and sheriff martin, Massacred the miners shot them dead. Wound many and killed 19!
Please show the deceased the respect they never had!
